The “Fire Kid” is going to have to wait until next year to light up the Octagon again.

French bantamweight Tom Duquesnoy announced Tuesday that an intercostal hematoma has forced him to withdraw from his upcoming bout opposite Nathaniel Wood at UFC 232 on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.

In Duquesnoy’s statement, which he put up on Instagram, he wrote that the hematoma will prevent him from training for the Wood fight, but he is hoping to re-schedule the bout for sometime in February.

The 25-year-old joined the UFC last year as a top prospect after compiling a 14-1 (1 NC) record competing in Europe, where he captured and successfully defended BAMMA titles at both 135 and 145 pounds. So far in his UFC career, Duquesnoy has sandwiched a split decision loss to Cody Stamann with a unanimous decision win over Terrion Ware and a second-round TKO of Patrick Williams.

It is not known yet whether officials will seek a new opponent for Wood or re-schedule the meeting with Duquesnoy for a later date as suggested.

See Duquesnoy’s full statement below:

After different MRI and medical exams, an intercostal hematoma will keep me out of training for the next month and a half and unable to compete for the next fight scheduled for December 29. We are working to re-schedule it for February and for now, it’s time for recovery and medical care. I will keep you informed for the new date of the fight and in the meantime I thank you all for your support.
