Tyron Woodley plans to help Floyd Mayweather get ready for MMA fight

If Floyd Mayweather is serious about stepping into the Octagon, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is serious about preparing him for that challenge.

During a segment on his Hollywood Beatdown show, “The Chosen One” said that he has spoken to Mayweather about training together should the boxing legend attempt a rumored jump into MMA:

“I saw him at the Jordan party during (NBA) All-Star weekend,” Woodley said, explaining how he and Mayweather opened discussions. “We started chatting about training MMA and we decided let’s connect, let’s hook up in Vegas and do some training and get him ready for MMA.”

Woodley is optimistic about Mayweather’s chances in an MMA fight, particularly if he’s matched up with a fighter with a similar skillset.

“Floyd Mayweather’s one of the best strikers of all-time,” Woodley said. “How many guys in the UFC that can’t wrestle and can’t grapple that consider themselves a standup fighter, but they have to stand across one of the greatest strikers ever, they gonna be in a world of smoke.”

The welterweight king pointed out that Mayweather would obviously have to work on defending against kicks and takedowns, but that it wouldn’t take more than “maybe 2 1/2 months” to prepare him for the UFC (though he specified that this is under the assumption that Mayweather would be smart enough not to face a high-level wrestler or jiu-jitsu artist).

Asked what will happen if Mayweather takes him up on the offer, Woodley doubled down on his claim saying, “We already getting it set up.”
