UNBEATEN MEXICAN 160-POUNDER JAIME MUNGUÍA READY FOR FRIDAY’S ACTION

Strong Tijuana fighter Jaime Munguía will step into the ring this Friday, in Indio, California to wage a fight that could define his immediate future.

A resounding victory on Friday would mean that he would be considered to contest within the first quarter of 2021 for a world middleweight Title and become world champion in 2 divisions, after having been world super welterweight champion.

Munguía (35-0, 28 KO’s) battles Bahamian Tureano Johnson (21-2-1, 15 KO’s) for the WBO Middle Intercontinental Belt being disputed, headlining a show jointly promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Zanfer Promotions on DAZN and TV Azteca.

Munguía was the WBO Super Welterweight World Champion between May 2018 and September 2019, making 5 world title defenses of his belt.

In his most recent appearance last January, Munguia knocked out Gary O’Sullivan in 11 rounds, in what was his Middleweight debut.

Now the Mexican slugger will face Johnson who came within one triumph of being a medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and who is the reigning NABF (North American Boxing Federation) Middleweight Champion.

Johnson’s 2 only losses have been to Curtis Stevens in 2014 and Sergiy Derevyachenko in 2017.

Munguía returned last weekend to his native Tijuana, after having done his preparation for 7 weeks at the Otomí Ceremonial Center.

Upon arrival in Tijuana (on the Mexican side of the Mexican-American border), Munguia said that he feels in full physical and mental condition, with many desires to get into the ring.

Munguía also shared that having trained at Otomi’s height elevation was very good for his physique, his performance, and his adaptation in Middleweight.

The 160-pound slugger also commented that on fight night his coach boxing legend Érik “Terrible” Morales will assist him in his corner for the 3rd time.

“El Terrible” Morales has helped him in aspects of rhythm, offensive variety, and defense, Munguia assures.

If Jaime Munguía becomes Intercontinental Champion, he would become the mandatory challenger for WBO Middleweight World Champion Demetrius Andrade.

Andrade has a non-title fight scheduled for November 27.

However, it is not ruled out that Munguía could instead fight another Middleweight world champion, such as IBF champ “GGG” Gennady Golovkin, WBA titlist Ryoto Murata or WBC King Jermall Charlo.

And Jaime Munguía would not mind colliding against his superstar compatriot Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez.

But for all of that, Munguía first have to defeat Johnson this Viernes.

Will he do it?
