Fresh off an impressive win in her Octagon debut, former Pancrase strawweight champion Viviane Araujo won’t return to her original weight class just yet.
Araujo, who stopped Talita Bernardo in a bantamweight bout at UFC 237 on May 11, is set to face Alexis Davis in a flyweight contest at UFC 240 in Edmonton, Canada, on July 27. Both fighters confirmed the booking on social media following a report by Combate.
Davis (19-9), who sits at No. 7 in UFC’s official 125-pound ranking, is coming off back-to-back decision defeats to Katlyn Chookagian and Jennifer Maia. The Invicta FC and Strikeforce veteran currently holds a 6-4 record under the UFC banner, 1-2 since moving down to flyweight.
Araujo (7-1) made her Octagon debut on four days’ notice, replacing Melissa Gatto against Talita Bernardo in Rio de Janeiro, and now rides a four-fight winning streak with all wins coming by way of stoppage.
UFC 240 will take place at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada, and feature Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar for the featherweight championship in the main event.
