True to its form in bringing world-class fighters to the global scene, the World Lethwei Championship focuses on a full calendar this 2021 under its new President, Counselor at Law Bernat Palangues.
The WLC was officially established in August 2017 at Yangon, Myanmar through its inaugural event was held 4 months earlier in March of 2017.
In 2019 at a pre-fight press conference, WLC Executive Director Sein Phyo Hlaing revealed the plans to expand in 2020, however, the global pandemic halted several plans. This January 2021, under the leadership of Mr. Palangues, the expansion and several events are in the works.
WLC currently broadcasts to more than 100 countries, and with the initial. plans to hold world events in Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, and the United States, the WLC poses a lot of promise to bring Lethwei into a universal status.
