RYUYA Yamanaka landed more telling blows to dethrone fellow Japanese Tatsuya Fukuhara via a unanimous decision and captured the WBO World minimumweight title last Aug. 27 at the Shiroyama Sky Dome at the Ashikita-gun in Kumanoto, Japan.
Judges Carlos Ortiz Jr. and Surat Soikrachang both scored it 115-113 while judge Salven Lagumbay gave it 116-112 all for Yamanaka.
The 12-round title fight was promoted by Kenya Honda of Honda Fitness Promotions.
The 22-year old Yamanaka, a former Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) minimumweight champion posted his 15th win with four knockouts against two losses.
He previously knocked out Thailand’s Khanongmek Sithkrukong in the first round only last March 12 at the Central Gym in Kobe.
He won the vacant OPBF minimumweight title by a unanimous decision against former Filipino world champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo last November 11 also at the Central Gym.
The 28-year old Kuhara, who dropped to 19 wins with 7 knockouts, 5 losses and 6 draws, won the interim WBO World minimumweight title by a split decision against Moises Calleros last February 26 at the Matsushima Athletic Park Gym in Kamiamakusa.
