Fresh after graduating from high school, undefeated half Mexican and half Pinoy youngster Chavez Barrientes scored a 6-round unanimous decision win over unheralded Mexican super bantamweight Iván Varela (3-3, 1 KO) tonight.
Barrientes’ victory was one of the preliminary bouts of the entertaining Premier Boxing Champions show that featured the win of Boholano Mark “Magnífico” Magsayo over tough Mexican Rigoberto Hermosillo at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Barrientes’ loving mother is a Filipina lady. His dad is Mexican who named him his son Chavez in honor of legendary boxer Julio César Chávez.
The young Chavez’ twin brother, Angel, also won his fight tonight. The family breathes and loves boxing, living happily together in Hawaii.
The young boxers train in Las Vegas; and we wish them the best of luck in their young boxing careers.
