FORMER WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council light flyweight champion Michael “Blade” Enriquez will fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia flyweight title against former interim WBA World flyweight champion Stamp Kiatniwat on June 21 in Bangkok, Thailand.
“I am excited for the fight. I have trained more than a month. I will do my best to make an upset,” said Enriquez.
Enriquez, who is under Sanman Boxing Stable in General Santos City previously scored a first round knockout against Jade Yagahon last March 12 at the T’boli gym in T’boli, South Cotabato.
“This is a big chance for Enriquez. He is facing a former world champion and a world-rated opponent. It will change his career if he wins,” said Manangquil.
Kiatniwat, whose real name is Yutthana Kaensa is toting 16 wins with six knockouts and only one loss. He is a former undisputed interim PABA flyweight champion.
He previously won by a unanimous decision to a debuting Rajesh last March 17 in Thailand after he lost to Kazuto Ioka by a TKO in the WBA world flyweight championship last December 31 in Japan.
Enriquez, who has 13 wins with 9 knockouts, 6 losses and 1 draw, had already won the vacant WBC Eurasia PBC light flyweight crown via a 7th round technical knockout against Oscar Raknafa in Macao, China in 2015.
The 28-year old Enriquez also fought but lost to Ardin Diale in their battle for the vacant WBC International flyweight title last December 3 at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
The native of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental also saw action in four separate championship fights. But he lost all of them.
He first bowed to Jake Bornea by a split decision for the vacant WBF International flyweight crown in 2014 in Gensan.
Enriquez was stopped in the 5th round by Mzuvukile Magwaca in their championship fight for the vacant IBO Inter-continental flyweight crown also in 2014 in Eastern Cape, South Africa.
He also dropped a unanimous decision in his third title fight from the hands of Rex Tso for the vacant WBA International super flyweight crown in 2015 in Macao.
Enriquez finally won his fourth title fight – WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council light flyweight.
But in his next championship, Enriquez lost again by a majority decision to Donny Mabao for the vacant Philippine flyweight crown in 2016.
Enriquez bounced back with a first round stoppage on Rowel Garcia on that same year at the Gaisano Mall Gensan before he bowed to Diale.
