Mansalayao, a former Luzproba flyweight champion, tried to counter Ponteras with his own combination in the first four rounds. But the native from Malita, Davao del Sur slowed down in the last three rounds as his right hand was also injured already.

“Sumakit na rin kasi ang kanan kong kamay,” said Mansalayao, who also earlier fought but lost both for the WBC Asian Boxing Council flyweight title and vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver flyweight crown this year.

“Malakas din sumuntok si Ponteras,”said Mansalayao.

Meanwhile, five of the six fighters from the Sonshine Boxing Stable beat their separate rivals in the undercard.

Former world champion Edrin “The Sting” Dapudong showed back his old fiery form by knocking out Ronnie Rex Dalut in just 54 seconds of the second round.
