Headed to the biggest fight of his career against longtime flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson, Wilson Reis feels ready to complete the task. As he spoke to Tatame, the title challenger revealed he thrives in his most difficult challenges and has been competitive since his childhood.

“I have a very strong mindset. Ever since I was a kid, I was very competitive, I always enjoyed the adrenaline and I always thrived in my hardest fights, because those were my best performances. I like to have fun, to be ready for the fight and let all the rest happen in the Octagon. I’m very confident in my game and I will always be myself in the Octagon.”

Coming from just one win over Dustin Ortiz and a loss to Jussier Formiga before that, Reis admitted he was surprised when he got his title shot, but he was happy nonetheless.

“I was really happy when I heard the news. A little surprised, too, but I knew I was close to a title shot. After they scheduled Benavidez vs. Cejudo, I knew they were thinking about who was going to be next. If you look at the Top 10, I was the only one apart from those two was coming off a win. I wasn’t sure Demetrious was going to wait until the end of TUF to fight again.”

Demetrious Johnson and Wilson Reis are scheduled to meet in the co-main event of UFC 201, on July 30, in Atlanta, Georgia. The night will be headlined by another title fight between welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley.
