Australian former IBF and IBO world champion Billy Dib (45-5, 26 KO’s) is back in battling mode when he faces experienced Indonesian Carlos Lopez (28-9, 9 KO’s) in a non-title super featherweight rumble in the undercard of the Amir Khan vs Neeraj Goyat WBC “Pearl” welterweight clash set for Friday, July 12, at the King Abdullah Sports Stadium in Jeddah, the famed Saudi Arabian port city on the Red Sea.
The war will be Billy Dib’s second rumble after losing his world title contest to the current IBF 130-pounder world champion “The American Idol” Tevin Farmer (29-4-1, 6 KO’s) in March of last year in Sydney, Australia.
In his latest battle, “Billy The Kid” brutalized and stopped in less than three minutes unheralded Thai fighter Surachet Tongmala (7-12, 4 KO’s).
The massacre unfolded last April in Hurstville, near Sydney, and the 33-year-old former two-division world champion claims for more ring action. No problem. He will have it.
Because on the blue corner will be rugged 32-year-old Indonesian warrior Carlos Lopez, a man born to fight.
Presenting a record of 28 wins with 9 losses, 9 wins by way of knockout, Lopez, the former Indonesian national champion, as well as former interim Asian Pacific titlist could not care less about Billy Dib’s world-class resume.
Despite being away from fight action, the ring savvy, tough-looking Carlos Lopez has been cleared by the strict Indonesian Boxing Commission to fight Billy Dib.
Lopez will make his way to the Kingdom accompanied by is cornerman Jack Amisa, 32, who also an active fighter.
The battle of Billy Dib of Sydney, Australia, taking on Carlos Lopez of Kupang Eltari, Indonesia, is a signed and sealed rumble set to be delivered on Friday, July 12.
The Dib-Lopez non-title four-rounder super featherweight undercard bout is promoted by East West Sports FC LLC. The main event is Khan vs Goyat.
The well-publicized July 12 Super Boxing League international boxing show in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will also feature unbeaten world-ranked Filipino Dave Peñalosa (15-0, 11 KO’s) warring South African Lerato Dlamini (12-1, 6 KO’s) for the vacant WBC Silver Featherweight belt.
Also in action will be undefeated Briton Prince Patel (19-0-1, 14 KO’s) engaging tough Michell Banquez (18-1, 13 KO’s) of Venezuela for the vacant IBO Bantamweight World strap.
More battles will complete the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia, and May the Best Men Win.
