Cuello to fight Thai Aug 3

DAVAO CITY — Former world silver minimumweight champion Denver “The Excitement” Cuello of Iloilo will fight Thailand’s Detnarong Omkrathok on Aug. 3 at the Brgy. Vergara Covered Court in Mandaluyong City.The 32-year old Cuello (37W-5L-6D, 25KO) scored a technical knockout in the 2nd round against Jack Amisa of Indonesia last March 8 to win the vacant Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) bantamweight title.It is the first comeback fight since Cuello made his ‘semi-retirement’ from boxing in 2015.His last bout was against Indonesian Boy Tanto with a 5th round TKO last June 27, 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand.Cuello,however, lost to defending champion Chaozhong Xiong of China by a majority decision in the battle for the World Boxing Council world minimumweight title last 2013.Omkrathok, on the other hand, beat compatriot Thanachai Khamoon by a majority decision last Sept. 23.He also outpointed Japan’s Ryo Hashiya by a majority decision last July 8. The 25-year old Omkrathok is currently with three wins with nine loses and one knockout.The “Showdown in Mandaluyong” is promoted by Brico Santig of the Highland International Boxing Promotions.
